AAOS Online Service Fact Sheet Ingrown Toenail: "To treat an infected ingrown toenail%2C soak your foot in warm%2C soapy water several times each day. You may need to gently lift the edge of the ingrown toenail from its embedded position and insert some cotton or waxed dental floss between the nail and your skin. Change this packing every day. "

I found this with a GOOG search for 'ingrown toenail'

What an amazing PAIN you've discovered! I guess I should soak it again in the morning. And change the cotton. I've cut back to biting/picking two fingernails - right thumb and left pinky. If I could leave the big toes alone I'll never have to endure this again. Dad suggests dealing with the emotions that cause the nailpicking. I think just find a more productive outlet. Like nose-picking.
